What is shocking to me, is that along with the indictment is a civil forfeiture claim, which is a remedy the government often uses for drug dealers and cartels.

What does that mean in layperson's terms, forfeiture?

Forfeiture means they seize the assets and money that's in a company.  And the significance under that law is it can be much broader relief than what's actually in the four corners of the indictment.

So for example, in this civil forfeiture complaint, the relief they're seeking at the end of it is all the assets and money for all the funds that SAC manages.
