최근에는 미국 의회를 둘러싼 논란이 잠잠합니다. 그래서 정말 오랜만에 들어보는 경제 용어가 들렸죠.

• debt ceiling = 부채 한도, 부채 상한선

매년 의회가 부채 상한선을 결정하고 있습니다. 매년 상한선을 올라가고 있습니다. 부채 한도에 달했다는 것은 재무부가 국채를 더 이상 발행할 수 없다는 것을 의미합니다. 이는 국가의 빚이 많아짐으로 복지비와 이자지급 자금 고갈된 것, 디폴트를 의미합니다.

On the debt ceiling, "what is more concerning to you", we asked.

Back in June 2011, 25% said the big issue is not raising and defaulting, 49% said raising it but the deficit going up.

So let's see what happened now.

And what you see here is that in June 2000, the idea of not raising and defaulting it more concern.

A plurality saying they are still concerned you'll raise the debt ceiling and not cut the deficit but those numbers are getting a lot closer.

A lot saying they don't know enough.
