우주가족 젯슨의 한 장면처럼 수백대 헬기가 초고층 빌딩 사이를 쏜살같이 달립니다. 하지만 만화가 아닙니다. 이것은 남미의 가장 혼잡한 도시에서 볼 수 있는 현실입니다. 미쉘 카루소 카브레로가 붐을 일으키고 있는 헬기산업에 대해 총체적으로 살펴봅니다.

네 마크씨 상파울루에는 등록된 헬기가 그 어느 도시보다 많습니다. 593개죠. 지난 5년 사이에 뉴욕과 동경을 추월했는데 아주 단순한 이유 때문입니다. 상파울루 교통사정은 어느 도시보다 끔찍하죠 상파울루 시내에서 한나절을 보내면 수많은 헬기가 하늘을 이리저리 가로 지릅니다. 하지만 아무리 시끄러워도 위를 쳐다보는 사람이 없습니다. 상파울루에는 1년에 7만대 비행이 있는데 런던의 주요헬리콥터 이착륙장인 배터시의 1만천개의 비행보다 더 많습니다.

The traffic in Sao Paulo is horrendous if you stand in downtown Sao Paulo during the day you'll see helicopters criss crossing the sky all day and they are so ubiquitous, no one even looks up anymore even though they are so loud There are 70,000 flights of helicopters per year in Sao Paulo and comparing that to only 11,000 at London's main heliport at Battersea

There are six helicopter taxi companies and in Manhattan, there are only two places to land in a helicopter. In Sao Paulo, there are more than 300 helipads on the tops of buildings so you can literally building hop from meeting to meeting without ever having to touch the ground. We flew over the city and you can see them They are these big blue pads with yellow triangles and they are on top of nearly all the buildings. This is emblematic of two crucial economic stories that's happening in Brazil. One is the tremendous growth you keep hearing about and that's great, but it's also representative of the woefully inadequate infrastructure and the underinvestment this country has done for the last 30 or 40 years.
