리비아 사태의 진행상황을 좀 더 알아보죠. 오늘 새벽 수도 트리폴리에서 적어도 두 번의 폭발음이 들렸습니다. 로이터 통신에서 인터뷰 했는데 어젯밤 대공포화가 하늘을 밝혔고 큰 폭발음도 들렸습니다. 정확히 어디에서 나오는 지는 모르겠지만 연합군 공습이 계속되고 있다는 것은 알 수 있었습니다. 지상전에서는 가다피 친위부대가 동부 전략도시 아즈다비아 밖에 모인 반군에게 포탄을 쏴서 시위대를 해산시켰습니다. 하지만 리비아 정부는 이같은 강경 진압에 대해 스스로를 보호하기 위한 것이였다고 해명했습니다.

예멘에서는 위기에 몰린 알리 압둘라 살레 대통령이 예멘이 곧 내전위기로 가고 있고, 자신이 쫓겨난다면, 예맨은 분열될 것이라고 경고했습니다. 한 보좌관은 살레 대통령이 총선 이후 내년 1월 까지 물러날 것이라고 말했는데, 이는 원래 계획보다 몇 달이나 빠른 것입니다. 하지만 수도 사나에 모인 시위대들은 이를 거부하며 당장 대통령직에서 물러나라고 요구했습니다.

미국은 지금까지 예맨 사태에 대해 침묵을 고수하고 있었지만 이번에 불안정한 예멘 사태에 불안감을 표시하며 알카에다가 입지를 넓힐 것이라며 우려를 나타냈습니다.

In the meantime after a near two-month closure, the Egyptian Stock Exchange is due to open for trade today, authorities say they will suspend trade for thirty minutes, if the index falls by more than 5% and stop trading for even longer period if it falls by 10%. Heavy foreign selling also expected to weigh on the Egyptian pound, which of course weakened overnight, ahead of the planned reopening of the stock exchange.
